Oh, the joys of Friday the 13th…are there any? Well, round these parts there can be as today just so happens to be my esteemed boss’ 62nd birthday. Yep, against all odds old McKelvey is actually still with us, although more in spirit (Jack Daniel’s to be precise) than in mind…
So, I hear you ask, what is the secret of his longevity? What is his magic formula for looking so amazing for his age?
Well, put it this way, it is not the regime followed by Brazilian bodybuilder Andréa Sunshine, 53, who apparently shows her fitness day by day on Instagram, with diets, training, and all the care she needs to have an impeccable body (according to a press release that has landed with impeccable timing to pad out my musings this week).
You see, Ms Sunshine has been gaining public attention (which escaped me, but who cares?) from her very own shake recipe, which it is claimed not only dries the belly but delays ageing, too.
And according to the personal trainer, the recipe is super easy to make as well.
“Get carrots, celery, ginger, parsley and oranges. Place all items in a juicer and consume on an empty stomach 30 minutes before breakfast,” she enthuses, adding: “Celery is a great source of important antioxidants. Ginger, on the other hand, is an edible root that, when added to the diet, can bring many health benefits, from helping to lose weight to treating poor digestion Carrot is a root that brings health benefits, such as preventing ageing, cancer, protecting vision and maintaining tan. Parsley is rich in vitamins A, C, E, from the B complex and antioxidants.”
Mmmm sounds delicious, although I fear it is all a little too late for my boss to start guzzling that muck, and anyway, he doesn’t need to as he has his own regime, which goes something like this:
Up by 10am for a full English breakfast, complete with lashings of hot buttered toast. Come 11am it is elevensies, of course, Yorkshire Tea with three sugars and a packet of Hobnobs. By midday he is off to his “office” – that’s the Bridge Inn – where the hard work really begins. By 4pm he’s phoning the rest of the team to make sure they are all working hard. At 6pm he heads to the Indian Cottage Tandoori (where else?) for his tea. But he is always back home by 11pm for bed…
Luckily as today is his birthday, we all get to join him, which means I have less than half an hour to finish up and get down to the “office”. It’s not easy being me, you know. Have a good one!
